Marty, you really are an amazing, multi-faceted guy! We save money lots of ways here in Eastern Kentucky...mostly by not buying shoes or toothbrushes! Just kidding!

Also, don't forget that you can save water by placing 1-2 bricks in the tank of your toilet to displace water. Toilet will still flush, and you save something like 1/2 gallon per brick, per flush!

Keep on keeping it interesting!

Truth be told, these ideas are not original to Marty. He was in Ft. Worth a few weeks ago and sat in on a few of the undergraduate homemaking courses where he took copious notes, that he has graciously passed on to us.

Behold, your CP dollars at work . . . :)

Not trying to toot our own horn, but we just got back from our Thursday evening meal.

Tonight, we won the trivia contest (THE LONE RANGERS RULE !!) and used a coupon -same one every week- and we spent $18.00 TOTAL (including tip $12.00 meals plus $6.00 tip). We each get a meal between $6.50-7.25 and either get sweet tea or water to drink. Before the coupon and discount trivia card, our bill was over $36.00.

I think that is pretty good for a dad's night out with his three -18 year old and over- sons.

OK, OK I am tooting our horn. TOOT! TOOT!

You know, this is good information. But I have to say, I never thought I would come to a missional blog and talk about what freezer is better to get. What's next, the fine art of using a singer sewing machine? :-D

You're a full-service blogger, Marty...Good job, and I really like your suggestions...and I mean that...

One of the things that my sons and I have started doing is playing trivia at our local Mexican Restaurant on Thursday evenings. They give out discount cards for $20, $15 and $10 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. We have never failed to get -at least- 3rd. And therefore a meal out is greatly reduced from $35-40 to about $25 or less including the tip. We enjoy the food, have a good time matching our -limited- wits with the other customers and save a good deal of money on the meal, as well.

We have even begun to think about splitting into two teams and trying to win two of the discount cards. Is that just being greedy, though ?

Several of the local restaurants that we frequent have discount cards and one of our favorite pizza places has even created a family-meal deal based around our weekly order. So instead of the standard order costing us $35-38 dollars, we get it for $28. They are friends that frequently came to ride on our motocross track -at no cost- so they are very helpful when we show up to support their business.

I know it cost more to eat out than fix a meal at home, but with four guys what else can you expect ? It costs me even less when they help chip-in for the cost of the meals, but those "miracles" are few and far between.

Thanks for the helpful hints, Marty.

[...] Great post on saving money on groceries. When the economy is as tight as it is we need all the help we can get. Check it. [...]
