Marty,

Your description of the meal made me homesick for Argentina whose beef is world-renowned. The "asado" or barbecue they serve is as you described it--tasty, abundant, and well-salted. The salt helps to tenderize the meat in the process of cooking it.

I also recalled our involvement in 1995 (I think that was the year) when Argentina hosted the Pan-American Games at Mar del Plata. We worked with a sports evangelism group based out of Hurst, TX and helped translate for them, etc. We also got to attend a few of the games--including some basketball, volleyball, and field hockey matches. Glad you made it back safely and I'm sure the experiences will enrich your pastoral ministry.

Sounds great, Marty. We had a team go to Brazil a few years ago and our young adults minister is from there. He's off this summer on a stint as a professional soccer player in New England. Anyway, the description of the meat alone made me want to visit!

I've been to Campo Grande- a nice city. Brazil is a great culture, but definately feels the effects of our exports and even worse, Romanism.

We have those restaurants here in Florida- especially Orlando from what I hear. Great food!

When you were there, if you met a man named Timothy Pugh, I hope you didn't give him your number. He'll try to solicit money from you shamelessly.

I played goalie a few times while in England. It is amazing how much of the world is crazy about kicking a ball around with their feet. They will do it nonstop if allowed! And they are so agile with their feet and a ball.

Here in the Philippines they are, surprisingly enough, more interestd in basketball, even though they are much shorter than much of the world.

Glad that you are back -safe and..... Well, it is great to have you back in the States.
You should have let PETA know of your experience with shooting dogs. They'd probably picket outside New Bethany, too.
Seriously, I'm glad to hear that you got back safe and had a great experience.

Alan-
I knew how to say it, but I didn't know how to spell it! I passed on the chicken hearts. No way.

Kevin-
Timothy and I went to the practice yesterday. PETA on one side of the entrance and a bunch of "Let him play" guys on the other. It was the most action the Flowery Branch police had ever seen.

Glad you made it back safely. If soccer doesn't suit you well I hear there is an opening for a QB down the road from you. :)

Welcome back, Marty! I'm looking forward to reading more of your reflections. You brought back delicious memories -- ya can't beat the chuhascarias in Brazil, where you get your annual red meat quota in one sitting. You didn't mention one -- did they not offer you chicken hearts on a little skewer? Chewy.
